equations

Mother Jones is one of my favorite magazines.  The last page of the July/August issue has a graphic titled "The New Math of Global Warming."  Some of the equations are have a much broader application and are timeless.  Here are my favorites:

Denial =  What I Think – The Facts

Ignorance = It / What I Know About It

Waste = Want – Need

Intertia = What We Should Be Doing / What We Are Doing

This issue also has a stomach-turning article on off-roaders using an obscure old law to claim that thousands of miles of trails and paths — including those on private and public land — are open to motorized vehicles. Please read.

    Bloody off-roaders. Over here in the UK they carve up our moorland in the name of sport. Hmm… pass me an RPG!

    The ORV article is maddening. Not only is the law obscure, their use of it seems to pervert its original purpose.

    I hate off-roaders even more than I hate crotch-rocket riders who ride the yellow line during stopped traffic. I like the new math. It reminds me of high school when my friends and I created the "new math" in our Pre-Calc class. The only equation I remember is 4! = FOUR!!! (said really loud)
